Badass. Secrets. Adventure.

The story follows Fable, a dredger abandoned on an island by her father with nothing but a wicked scar and the ability to deep sea dive for treasure. When she finds herself on The Marigold, captained by the handsome West and his young ragtag crew, she is determined to do whatever it takes to survive and claim back what’s rightfully hers.

I don’t know what I was expecting (this was definitely a cover buy!) but I fell in love with everything about this book: the world building, the characters, the romance, the plot development…everything! Fable has muscled her way into my list of all time favourite MCs. She is one “badass mother who don’t take no crap off of nobody” but she also silently cries at everything. I love her. But also all of the characters were so well done; they were all haunted by their pasts in their own way that shaped their characters. I want to join this crew so bad!

I thought the world building was skilfully done, with just the right balance of description and action to keep me interested. I want to jump right into this “Ketterdam meets Pirates of the Caribbean” world that I would probably survive less than 5 minutes in before I was murdered or had a nervous breakdown.

Overall, this is as a really quick fun read that completely immersed me in the world and I loved every second of it!
