The Words I Wish I Said by Caitlin Kelly

reflective slow-paced

This book was just okay. The author wrote the majority of these poems whe she was 16 and 17, and thus most of the poems felt juvenile to me. Even if I didn't know her age going into the book, I believe you'd still be able to guess her age based on her writing. This doesn't make them bad by any means, but I think they lacked the  emotional depth that the author was aiming for. Granted they might make a bigger impact on you if you are around that age and are dealing with your first breakup, because most of the poems circled that theme. There were still some really insightful poems scattered throughout that I enjoyed however. I'd be interested to see how much her writing style has changed as she has grown up.
