This was an absolutely charming read, I think I would've loved it as a kid and I found it really soothing and sweet now. The plot was pretty simple so it wasn't exactly a riveting story but I don't think it needed to be. I felt alot of the side characters weren't completely three dimensional but for a middle-grade graphic novel of this length that's not a big issue to me. Although the writing wasn't my favourite (though don't get me wrong it was lovely) I didn't want to give this any less than four stars because the art is just so beautiful. It's exquisitely drawn and I do think that has a major effect on the story. What a beautiful book. I really recommend this to someone who wants to feel warm and cosey and autumnal, I could see myself reading the sequel because I'd like to see how the characters, especially peripheral ones, progress with a bit more time to be fleshed out. Above all this is just an adorable book and I don't think it should be taken too seriously. Though it does explore some darker themes, they're discussed in a very accessible way. I will probably reread this towards Halloween.
