Bend Her by Cassie Alexander

5.0

Synopsis:

Bend Her is a dark Beauty and the Beast Fantasy Romance trilogy, book one of the series.
Lisane (Beauty) and Rhaim (Beast) are forced together at the beginning of this book by Lisane's father, unbeknownst to her. In exchange, Rhaim is to fight for her father against the Deathless that swarm the human lands, threatening to kill all and take over the world.
Although Lisane is appalled by this man-beast due to his disgusting behavior, rudeness, and complete lack of emotion, he holds something she wants. Freedom and Knowledge. Freedom, to choose who she wants to become and not be locked away in a tower as a prized wife or breeder for her betrothed. Knowledge of mages and magic to increase her strength and fill her being with the magic she so desperately seeks.
Rhaim, all-beast, and mage, knows how he will die. His vision has shown him Lisane's amber eyes. His death is by her; in some way, at some point in time, she will kill him. However, there is an unnerving connection between them. Something he can't place his finger on.

My Review:

Bend Her is the first book in a while that I finished within a day. 352 pages filled with a story and characters I am eager to learn more about and a story I want to see unfold.
Lisane is a strong and independent woman who knows what she wants and is willing to put everything on the line to achieve it. Rhaim is awestricken by her beauty and her effect on his mind, soul, and body.
The character building in this novel is very well done, giving you detailed imagery. The addition of my personal favorite furry friend, Finx (spider-cat), is strategically placed to add to the storyline. There is a slow but even build of sexual tension between the two characters, within their thoughts and actions, giving some spicy scenes.
Beauty and the Beast, reinvented by the mind of Cassie Alexander, keeps a reader enthralled within the story. Wanting, no NEEDING to read more. To learn what will become of the beast and his beauty, how the twists and turns of the story play out, and how, in the end, she will kill the beast as he frequently recalls in his deathly vision.
Resemblances to the fairy tale most of us know and love is captured in environmental, character, and situational details yet completely twisted in a new and compelling way.
Bend Her is Book One of the Trilogy. Break her, Book Two, will be released 15 May, 2023 with Book 3, Make Her following suit sometime there after.
