If this is the first Katherine Rundell book you have read, you will probably love it. Having read several others, I have to  confess being slightly disappointed. The writing is as superb as ever but the characters did not feel as memorable as in, for example, The Explorer (how is that scoring less than 4 on StoryGraph?!). I also found it just a bit derivative of other fantasy novels and it just didn’t capture my imagination in the way her other novels did. The last part  is gripping and it t up well for sequels. Still very much worth reading but I would pick her other books over this one.
