Mansfield Park
by Jane Austen
I liked Mansfield Park—it’s Jane Austen after all— but I didn’t love it. Fanny was just too perfect, too unflinchingly moral and upright. I relate so much to other “good” women in her books, like Elinor Dashwood and Anne Elliot— their restraint and easy tempers don’t mean they feel passionately and make mistakes and err just like everyone else. Fanny legitimately does nothing in her entire story. Love the writing, but the plot was a morality tale wrapped in a snooze.
