Bloom by Delilah S. Dawson
2.5

I love horror in all flavours. I love queer themes and stories. I love it when these two twist together like a vine and ascend (woah, a reference to the something said in the book!), but I unfortunately did not love Bloom. For what it's worth, there was about an equal mix of things I enjoyed and didn't enjoy. Ash's characterization was fun, as much as I hated her, as well as how much I was generally reminded of Hannibal
(turns out that was the main inspiration :3)
, but Ro was naive and this was especially frustrating because of how predictable the outcome was. I doubt it was meant to be unpredictable, though; I was able to tell the friend I bought this with that it involved what it did before I opened it up. I guess I just wanted it to be more potent than it was since I was bored until the last thirty or so pages (my fault - I am not particularly fond of romance in general, and it's disguised as such for much of the book), but even then it didn't quite satiate me. It was sweet and quick and didn't require much thinking and sadly that's just not the sort of read I am satisfied with.
