📚 Review: This book opens with Melody’s 16th birthday celebration, Melody wearing a custom made dress as she gets escorted into her party. But the dress wasn’t made for her, but for her mother 16 years earlier, for a celebration that never happened. The book follows Melody’s grandparents and parents, recounting how they got to this moment. It’s a commentary on the ways young people have to make so many life altering decisions without knowing what they’re deciding, while navigating so many internal and external factors. Woodson’s writing is poignant, and beautiful, and I definitely recommend this book.
