4.75 stars for making me cry like an absolute baby for at least a full third of the book.

Broken Country had me in absolute pieces. The story is told in Beth's POV and switches between timelines ranging from Beth's time as a teenager to the present day, covering her time dating Gabriel, raising her son, her marriage to Frank, and the trial for the death of a farmer.

I could not believe the depth of the relationships written in this book, the power of the emotions, and the hold the author had on me while I was reading.

My only issue was that it was slightly slow to pick up but as soon as I hit part 2, I could not put this down. The twists were also fully unpredictable for me, and I'm usually someone who picks up on them right away.

If you're looking for your next general fiction book club pick, look no further.
