The Candy House by Jennifer Egan

I loved A Visit from the Goon Squad in 2010 but tbh didn’t remember it extremely well. It was cool to read this and connect the dots/remember some of the threads from the previous book. I think I connected with this tech plot devices (an endless digital repository of all human memories that you have to opt into) more than other tech dystopia plot devices in the past few years. The book riffs on a now old idea—“social media users are not using the product; they are the product—but doesn’t really present it as a problem to overcome. It’s just accepted that the world works that way now and the stories use that idea as a backdrop to tackle language, connection, memory, death, and lots of topics surrounding performance/music (which particularly hit home with me)
