Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything
by Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner
challenging
informative
fast-paced
In real life, I think Steven Levitt would be an exhausting person to have a conversation with. You know the type: The eternal devil's advocate who seems to only think in numbers.
The book itself, though, is okay. I do miss a bit of a throughline but this is tolerable. The chapters are based on articles and the writer gives the context that there isn't much of a takeaway. It does read nicely and gives you some fun insights into the world of micro economics. Even if not every topic seems much inspired by economics at all.
It is also painfully 2000's. From controversial topics it discusses to the right-in-your-face magazine cutout look of the cover... I think it's good the popularity of this book stayed in that time period as well.
