2.5

I was really looking forward to this book and it was extremely disappointing. First, none of the characters are remotely interesting or likeable. On top of that, Silas is gross and his representation is wholly unnecessary.
It's just a device to "hint" (and by hint I mean shove in your face) the "twist" of who Ruth is. On that point, literally every single "twist" or "shocking" reveal I predicted chapters before it was revealed. Things would drop at the end of a chapter and I'd just be sitting there like "yeah.... you basically told us that already?" It just got to the point I was keeping myself engaged by predicting which information that's clearly hinted at would be "revealed" in some big way rather than actually being excited about some twist that would come next.
I almost DNF'd it because there was no mystery really engaging me, and the ending was extremely disappointing and just really wasn't worth me pushing through. 2.5 largely cause the concept is interesting, but not well executed at all.
