My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

2.0

Wow definitely an experience this was... now me, personally, I would not touch this MC with a 39-and-a-half foot pole but I liked the way her inner monologue was meticulously written. Reminded me how depraved a human being can be, and I still don't feel like I truly understood her desire to take the year off. I expected more from her backstory than just a shitty upbringing. At the end of the day she remains a privileged, rich, Very skinny girl living in NYC who never learned how to like anything or anybody except that which brings her some sort of sadistic or absurd pleasure. Her connection to Trevor was absolutely disgusting to read/listen to. At this rate I genuinely don't understand what she expected to learn or feel after making herself feel nothing, and why she wanted to keep living at all.
