Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors ever, and this is the first book to her multiple Tortall works. It's fun, it's interesting, it's filled with feminism. Keep in mind this book builds up into the rest of a four-book series, so it would never work as a standalone. I wish there was some more detail to some scenes, but otherwise, this book is perfect in my eyes.
