Carrie by Stephen King

4.0

3.5 stars rounded up to a 4, mainly for nostalgia's sake and the fact that the 1976 film adaption is my favorite movie. It amazes me how Stephen King's first novel is his best. It's also amazing how, to me at least, Carrie is a distinctly feminine narrative (what with the villains of Chris and Margaret both being women and the initial inciting incident being menstruation) written by a man who has proven he's not the best at writing women. The entire book just feels so original and unique and I have such tenderness for Carrie White that I have to be generous. The writing isn't as impressive as I remember from the first time I read it at age 16 and the pacing is a little too fast for my liking, but it's a book I truly love.
