A Girl Like Her
by Talia Hibbert
With all of the hype that Talia Hibbert has been getting, I decided to pick this book up without knowing too much about it. Even though it isn't a new favorite book for me, I still enjoyed this read. There were funny moments and a bit of a mystery about Ruth throughout probably a bit over half of the book, which I enjoyed.
I liked that there's a whole plot that was happening aside from the romance. The characters felt originals and I enjoyed seeing Ruth develop and start standing out for herself. Also, I liked that Ruth wasn't a damsel in distress and she always knew how to handle herself, even if it wasn't in the best way. I tend to always relate to the characters who are pushing people away because they were hurt or because they're dealing with an insecurity or some kind of guilt, and the same happened to me with Ruth.
Now, to the things that I didn't like. It felt like Ruth and Evan started liking each other and being insanley attracted to each other very quickly, but maybe the time aspect wasn't clear enough for me. I wish we could have seen more of their discussions about comics because it was one of the things that brought them together but then it wasn't mentined anymore. And they were kind of going in circles with
It felt to me like Evan's side plots were kind of left out towards the end, which is a shame because he has interesting aspects to his character that I'd liked to see explored more.
There are other things but I can't really put my finger on them so I'll leave it at that. I heard that you can tell how Talia Hibbert's writing improved and developed, so I definitley can't wait to pick up the Brown sisters trilogy.
