A is for Activist
by Innosanto Nagara
When I was a younger (childless) librarian doing collection development at a previous library, I ordered this book, read it, and liked it. So naturally I put this book on my baby registry. Now, as a parent to a young child, I find this book offputting. The illustrations are wonderful and the ideas are important and discussion-worthy, but most concepts (namely Zapatista) would go completely over a child's head. I agree with other reviewers that this is another children's book made exclusively for adults. I think a better way to go about this would be to read your child picture books that include diverse characters - strong females, LGBTQ+ people, people of color. But keep the stories simple.
