This book left much to be desired in my opinion. It was heavy on sex and violence and light on the pieces of fantasy that draw me to the genre. The book itself is well written and I enjoy the author’s voice, but the plot was rather slow and focused less on Onna’s personal journey into full
mage-hood than I would’ve hoped. And though I know we’re to take Tsira’s pregnancy as some type of miracle that points towards the restitution of life after so many had been taken, it shocked me that Tsira and Jeckran were the final people we see in the story when Onna’s is the one I felt most connected to.
This felt like it could have been two books, although I love the way her writing weaves the stories into crossed paths.
