Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

5.0

Ali Hazelwood coming in clutch (as per) and giving us STEM girlies what we need

no bc I wrote a paper on transcranial magnetic stimulation 2 months ago and I'm yet to meet my own Levi Ward. I have questions and comments, namely: where do I find an academic like him. Oh to have a man adore me for my ability to recall stupidly specific neuroscience facts (the dream).

I am gushing, *gushing* over this book. Two characters meeting in grad school, Character A seems to be a rude, insensitive prick to Character B, who is disheartened, confused and now committed to a rivalry/mutual dislike with Character A. But Character B doesn't know that A isn't trying to be an asshole he's basically just infatuated with her and freezes, forgetting how to talk like an actual human when she's around. I'm screaming. It's literally Levi and Bee and I am obsessed.

The fact that they were talking so much to each other and not understanding each other at all. It would've been incredibly irritating if I wasn't have in love with both of them from the beginning. And if there's one thing I love in romance books, its a man who is head-over-heels goofy for his love <3 I'm talking Morticia and Gomez level. Who just thinks every little thing, every comment, every mannerism of his crush is just art, brilliance, the work of miracles and deities.

Bee: *exists*

This man was whipped. I would be utterly gobsmacked by how one person can be down this bad for somebody else, but it's me and I form obsessions like this in two chapters sooo.

"I want to tell her that she's luminous, she's so bright in my mind, sometimes I can't focus. Sometimes I forget why I came into the room...She's everything I ever wanted and I want to inject her into my veins and also to never see her again. There's nothing like her and these feelings, they are fucking intolerable."

I'm foaming at the mouth--frothing, fist-in-mouth screeching. Apologies to my sweet puppy who had to deal with me trembling with barely contained feelings at 2am while I devoured this. Like how could I not fall in love with this book when there's quotes like:

* "Did she at least get ugly while she was gone?" "She's still the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
* I look up and there he is, staring at me with a soft smile...
* the way he looks at me like he has found answers all of a sudden, like my body is a religious experience (THIS!!! thiSSS!!!!)
* "And I'll never hurt you like they did. I promise I don't bite" "You could rip me to shreds, Bee."
* He looks at me, calm. Hopeful. So patient, my love.

When they use words like intolerable and ardently. I'm on the floor. THE FLOOR! Listen, I know there was practically nothing of substance in this review, and that's completely fine bc I loveeeee women in STEM and I love a good grumpy-sunshine dynamic (u decide which is which), and women getting the recognition and love they deserve. No criticism because I don't have that in me right now <33333

I have to include a mention to RocĂo, because she quite frankly carried this book and I love her.

In summary: Levi and Bee are
