The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton
3.0

I thought this was a nice little read. Nothing complicated or super amazing, but I liked Mick and Tara and their chemistry was good. There were a few cringy lines, but not too cheesy. This was my first contemporary romance book, and first sport romance, so I don't really have anything to compare it to genre-wise, but I liked it enough to go ahead and try the next book in the series.

So, what didn't I like? Well, everything was a little too perfect sometimes. Like Tara's son being so broody that she didn't want to introduce him to Mick, but did she forget her son played high school football? Because of course Nathan loves Mick and has no problem with the relationship at all. So what was she worrying about. Oh and Mick's an alcoholic, but it's ok because Tara's parents were alcoholics, so she's just proud of him for overcoming addiction. And Mick's parents' anniversary is coming up? Perfect! Tara's an event planner. I don't know, everything lined up a little too well. There were only two kind of "drama" moments, and both were Tara jumping to conclusions without talking to Mick. And I really don't understand how Tara is such a sex goddess when she says she never dates.

A little too much time was devoted to Liz, who will obviously be the heroine in the next book. I don't think the author needed to make it so obvious, nor have Tara know within a moment of meeting her who Liz was in love with. Just seemed out of place. Anyway, I'll see how I feel after the next book.
