This book quite simply is confused. A story within a story within a story, it takes multiple tones and flings the reader through timelines and narrators. It's got a really heavily historical, textbook tone that I struggled with. While it teaches a lot about native folk, it serves to make the reader feel guilty for the horrors they endured. It's a tough, heavy read that while important wasn't for me.
