When She Reigns by Jodi Meadows

5.0

To date, this is one of my favourite Jodi Meadows stories, and one of my favourite book finales of 2019. This world and its lore are so richly crafted, I will genuinely miss it. I loved the way the author dove deep into the lore and power of dragons in ways I never imagined or expected. The writing is beautiful and flowing and had me on the edge of my seat during the adventure and action scenes.

The characters, both new and old, are complex and layered. I adored the side characters, especially Aaru, though I confess I would love to know more about an empress since she is quite complex. Not quite a villain, not quite an antihero, and not quite a hero, but she is so interesting that her moments were among my most favourite in the book.

Of course, Mira remains the star. She's always been unique and so full of heart and kindness. She never falters. Watching her overcome her insecurities and personal strife make her easy to relate to. I love her to pieces, and am truly going to miss her and her adventures.

This trilogy was packed with magic in every aspect. From its actual magic, to its lore and creatures, to its characters, romance, triumphs, and sacrifices. Definitely one of my favourite trilogies of all time, and a must read for anyone who wants to be swept away in a truly majestic fantasy.
