4.5 ⭐️ I love that YA has expanded past the dystopian love triangles of my youth. This fall read had the spookiness from witchcraft and magical realism but also the very real violence of the political right in the queer community. Honestly Maeve kind of sucks but I also have compassion for a teenage girl trying (and often failing) to figure out her place in the world. I like that she doesn’t get let off the hook easily for her actions and has to grapple with the harm she causes. Can’t wait to read the next one.
