This was wonderful!

A dog gets adopted by a girl (and her grandma/aunt...can't remember) who lives in an old bait-and-tackle shop on the edge of a Bayou/wetland. Together, they try to figure out who robbed their family's store, which leads them to sneaking into warehouses at night, hiding from a gang of rotten teens, and fleeing bad guys. It's a fun mystery, with lots of action, intrigue, and suspense.

The best part is, it's all narrated by the dog, who is eager, easily distracted, a bit clueless, and just totally thrilled to be there. Stuff like, "I didn't know why we were running, but running's my favorite! It's off the charts!" It was so funny and cute.

Highly recommend for middle-grade readers.
