I’m not sure why this was advertised as being YA when the dialogue & overall writing style is very middle grade esque, but once you get used to it it’s not that bad.
as for the plot itself, it’s definitely a slow starter. things didn’t really pick up/get set in motion until about halfway through the book. and even then most of the important plot relevant mystery solving is done off screen & relayed to the reader via info dumps which..is definitely a choice.
despite it’s flaws, this book was still a decently fun read with great queer rep. if you’re someone who enjoys middle grade and/or somewhat corny writing then you’ll probably enjoy this book too.
