This was my very first Abby Jimenez book, and I instantly understood why there is such a cult following! I loved everything about this one. Alexis and Daniel felt so real and raw. They were flawed and beautiful, and so was their story. I loved how they are polar opposites, yet their chemistry is instant.
I really enjoyed how even though Alexis is extremely "book smart," she struggles with basic things like how to cook or clean. I thought it was amusing, but also, I loved how Daniel does not judge her for that. She can't help her upbringing, and instead, he teaches her. Despite her upbringing, I don't think Alexis is intentionally stuck up. She recognized that she is privileged and even takes steps to become more conscious of how her actions can be perceived by those not as fortunate. She also evaluates her personal relationships more and more and makes some changes.
Daniel is an absolute gem. He is so kind, hardworking, and generous. IRL would be the perfect partner. I am glad that throughout the book, he learns his self-worth. His love language is acts of kindness, and several times throughout this book, I was swooning. Plus, the man can cook.
I was laughing out loud so often. Sometimes, the funny elements can feel forced, but this book was genuinely funny!
I loved all of the side characters. I believed that this town was real, and all of the characters are coming together helping each other!
The conflicts felt so believable. The issues were real-life problems that made life as hard as it. It was very easy to relate to the characters and what they were going through. I loved how this story ended. While it was predictable, it was exactly what I guessed and therefore what I was hoping for. I greatly appreciated that not all of the conflicts were 100% resolved. Life does not work that way.
