Ruta Sepetys has once again educated me in a period of history that I previously had no knowledge of. I admire her ability to make it clear that no matter the circumstances, young people everywhere have very similar hopes and dreams. The story was interesting and I liked the battle Cristian had while dealing with being an informant. I also enjoyed the comparisons to life in the US vs. life in Romania at the time. I had a very specifically American view of the 80s and the descriptions of this world felt absolutely bizarre to me. I always enjoy a book that motivates me to go look up the history of what they were based on to educate myself better.
