Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister

Did not finish book. Stopped at 15%.
The whole premise of this book is that a girl goes missing and the detective assigned to the case is asked to plant evidence to frame someone, or else her own secret will come to light. This “secret” is that she covered up something her daughter did. The book makes it a point that the detective, Julia, is “by the book” and “always honest”. You’d think her daughter would have done something henious for someone so committed to justice, honesty, and integrity to participated in covering it up. Well, turns out her daughter
was attacked and tried to fight back to her attacker and accidentally killed him.
That’s unfortunate, but not henious. I have a hard time believing that a straight edge detective would see this situation, obviously
a response to be assaulted
, and think “no one will understand, I should cover this up”. Completely unbelievable and therefore I am not finishing.
