Okay. I’m going to try to get all my thoughts out as clearly as I can.

#1. I found this book from TikTok and the way it was described vs. what I actually read were 2 very VERY different things.

#2. This book is FULL of VERY triggering and sensitive topics. Picking this book up with the expectation of having an escape will leave you EXTREMELY disappointed.

#3. Because of the very heavy topics, the coping mechanisms or lack thereof by the FMC, Elise, were extremely realistic IMO and from experience.

And essentially, becoming bonded with one person who knows all about your trauma and experiences is also NOT uncommon.

While I think the topics were heavy, I do appreciate the raw and real aspects of the writing and emotions or sometimes lack there of in other scenarios.

I do really hate that there weren’t consequences that fit the crime for the abusers but I also know from experience that a lot of times, that is exactly how it plays out.

I do think the ended felt rushed but I’d be lying if I didn’t also appreciate that in a strange way after the emotional rollercoaster this story took me on. There were times I was physically sick to my stomach but it also felt cathartic for me in its own way.

I can’t say i would recommend this book because I don’t think this journey of this story would be understandable for most people and in a way, that makes me happy. Because I also feel like you’d have to be you’re own kind of effed up to be able to take this book for what it is.

And a dark romance- it is not.
