Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

4.0

Chris Mcandless was like hundreds of other college boys; idealistic, philosophical and terribly naive. But unlike hundreds of other college boys, he died because of it. Into the wild is a bitter sweet story of the young Mcandless who walked into the Alaskan wilderness to be one with nature... He survived, happily so, for 112 days before dying, starved and emaciated. Plenty have written him off as an arrogant fool for thinking he could ever make it on his own, without a map (!!!), compass or training. He's been branded mentally ill, insane, spoilt and the rest... Read this book and you'll see chris just had the grit and determination to do what plenty of us have always wanted to, at least as young adults. Having said that, ten pounds of rice and an obsession is not enough prep work for the Alaskan wilderness. But hey, I guess you do have to be a little crazy to give it all up and disappear, even if for only a while.
