The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

4.0

A stunning book, and one that will often creep its way into my thoughts every now and again. The detail of this world Atwood creates is stunning; and the concept is so extremely clever. Like most dystopic fiction, the links between our world and the world we read can be a little frightening, and the same rings true. While Gilead may be seem almost farfetched at first glance, the connects (as always) soon make themselves apparent.
There was enough balance between real thought on politics and religion, and the storyline of characters you soon came to care about to keep me engaged. I haven't seen the film, but I would be highly interested in what a modern remake would look like - or even better, a modern mini series.
