Refuse to Be Done: How to Write and Rewrite a Novel in Three Drafts by Matt Bell

hopeful informative inspiring fast-paced

4.0

My biggest qualm with this book is Bell's asserition that discovery writing is more valuable than outline writing when really it's much more nuanced than that. He makes a half baked concession that you can write a book off of an outline, but he wags his finger at it. In fact, the middle section of this book, ie. writing a second draft from scratch, can be pretty well disregarded by any writer who makes even the simplest of outlines. Regardless, this book is still chock full of useful, practical writing advice for any writer, and I'm sure this is one I'll pick up often as a sort of "handbook" while at the desk.
