I enjoyed this story a lot. I did wish it moved a bit quicker. There was a lot of world building and I would have liked a bit more relationship building. I loved Rooke, her balance of being a caring earth witch and an amazingly dangerous soldier was an interesting combination. Soren has the potential for me to like him but it didn’t happen in this book. He’s too ignorant and blinded by hatred to see reason. He’s clearly a good guy but I would have liked to see some development from him in this book. I have read a lot of J Bree books and I’m sure we will get it in books 2 & 3 but I felt like he should have had some in this book. Overall this book set up what I’m sure will be an amazing series.
