Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley, Austin Siegemund-Broka

3.0

I love the premise. Instead of being pushed to the background after Romeo left her for some other girl, Rosaline should have her own redemption arc. She deserved her very own love story, deserved someone who will love her unconditionally, just like Megan does. Megan, alongside Owen, gave a good foundation to the whole story by their slight depictions of Rosaline and her later lover. It was nice, cute, and hopeful.

However, I think this trope will be more suitable for the older characters. Maybe university students, or professional thespians. The main idea was for Rosaline to meet her true love after a long time of searching, and it didn't quite correspond to the story. Megan and Owen were still fresh, they had only little experience in relationships in highschool. I don't mean to belittle teenager's love stories, but I feel like this whole premise was too grand for the young characters (I know I am rambling but I hope you understand what I mean).

Also, I didn't like the cheating trope undertone in the whole story. Getting together with your friend's ex who dumped her right in front of you and dated you instantly, even though you LOVE him (eyes rolling-what the f did you know about love anyway?) is fucked up. And making fun of someone's long distance relationship and flirt with someone who clearly have a girlfriend is fucked up too. Now you want to talk about true love?

This book has been sitting in my wishlist for years, and I am quite disappointed.
