Before starting this review, I would like to point out that there are two novellas in this, which will be separated below!

* A Cold Place For Dying *
What's it about?
Joe, who is out hunting for Christmas Eve, encounters a woman running towards him claiming she escaped her abductor. When the man comes forward in the forest, he says she is his wife and experiencing delusions from her mental illness. Joe doesn't know who to believe and with a blizzard coming in heavy, he must find a way to escape.

This is a fast paced thriller. While nothing truly shocking comes of the ending, it makes you question every word of what is exchanged between the three characters. You feel claustrophobic in the setting of this open forest and there is nowhere to turn that'll get you out safe. While we have a logical main character, you still battle with wanting to tell him to get the hell out of there, regardless of figuring out who is telling the truth. I personally thrived off the confusion & trying to pick apart their statements.

I'd recommend this to those that love winter thrillers, figuring out a mystery, and a sound-minded narrator.

* The Love Nest *
What's it about?
A man finds himself trapped in a cage with a scared woman. Fighting to survive, this sci-fi influenced novella questions your morals.

This is another fast paced thriller/horror that makes you feel trapped, this time in a cage in a captive situation. While our two characters battle with their morals and sanity, I was waiting for the moment for the messed up shit to happen and it didn't get there to the extent I thought it would. I was definitely not anticipating the ending with who this mysterious Mother is but hey, sci-fi me up Triana! I wish I could say more but don't want to spoil it, it was overall very enjoyable.

I'd recommend this to those that like sci-fi based horror, abduction thrillers, and that want to feel claustrophobic while reading a novella.
