The Deja Glitch
by Holly James
*Thank you to Netgalley & Penguin Group Dutton for an advanced copy of the book!
When Gemma meets Jack at her best friend's birthday party, she wasn't expecting to see him again the next day. Her world shifts when he tells her that they've met before, a hundred and forty-six times, to be exact. They're stuck in a time loop for who knows how long. The key to stopping it is each other, but can they really fall in love and fix everything in just one day?
Books with MCs named Gemma just hits different this year.
This book has the vibe of a very cliche romantic comedy. There're airport chases and backstage passes to concerts, stuff that only happens in a fictional setting. I'm not complaining, though, we read and watch these kinds of shows for escapism. Holly James did a great job of constructing an adorable story and also compelling characters to root for!
I didn't think I would be a fan of love-at-first-sight tropes, they're always a bit ridiculous. But this book made it ridiculous in a very lovable way (not sure if that made sense). The characters had more depth to them than I thought they would, and it was fulfilling watching them overcome their obstacles.
One thing I didn't really like about this book is that it all technically took place within a day. Maybe I'm just not a fan of a short time span in books, it feels like so much is happening it's just kinda chaotic.
But other than that, I loved it. I would recommend this if you're looking for a light-hearted romance to read over the weekend! I hope you'll enjoy it!
