Carrie is the first book in the Stephen King universe-that is incredibly large-and is the first book I started with to begin my journey into the universe. I knew the synopsis of the story but never watched the movie or read the book. I was fortunate enough to listen to the version read by Sissy Spacik (idk if I'm spelling her name right) the lovely actress who played Carrie in the original movie!
Sidenote: Sissy Spacik is like a bajillion times more attractive than the Carrie that was described in the book-but whatever
Anywho! Onto the review:
Like many others who read this book, I loved it. It was the perfect combination of a thriller/horror and also revenge story. Because miss girl GOT her revenge on those pathetic high school kids. Because seriously, getting her first period past the age of 12 and not even knowing about it, would literally traumatize anyone! While I was listening to what happened to her, I was cringing because that would honestly be incredibly rough. Carrie definitely was an empathetic and relatable character. Her mom, something else. Truly one of the more crazier parts of the story because she was just wilding about what life. She was really our here letting Carrie be abused because it was "the Lord's will." Miss girl, please help your child!
Chris was a sociopath or something because how are you doing that over getting in trouble for literally starting a whole group of girls to throw tampons and pads at Carrie. Like girl shut up and take the punishment. Nah she had to go wild and literally commit a crime because she was so pressed about Carrie. Glad she died! (The 2013 movie version of Carrie really beautifully killed Chris and Billy in the best way. Chef's kiss)
Sue was such a weird character, like I get she was trying to be nice but ehh. I felt bad for Tommy because he really seemed like he was genuinely a good guy. He died in a pretty lame way. Like damn, a bucket to the head?
I really liked how the book was told from like the court hearings, Sue's book and a study of Carrie and the city. It added a layer of intrigue that the movies did not capture.
Great start to my Stephen King dive 4.25/5 Would recommend and would read again.
