The Search by Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino, Gene Luen Yang

Um... hello! Yes! We stan!

If you’ve read my review of the Promise, you would remember that I thought that it fell a little bit flat and out of character. I was worried moving forward, but had heard good things, and honestly, the Search did not disappoint!

This book is. So. Good. I was hooked the whole time. We learned so much about the past of the Fire Nation and what happened when Zuko was little and poor Zuko! My heart!

You will be pleased to hear that Zuko is the protagonist of this story, which is awesome because Zuko is such an amazing bean and so kind and sweet and his turmoil breaks me! (Although there was no Mai???).

All of the main gaang, except for Toph, were present in this comic and they were far more in character than last time, which was phenomenal and made it really feel like part of the show.

The art style is absolutely exquisite and so glorious to look at. The incredibly-talented artists have managed to capture the feeling and movement of the show with still image, which must have been a mammoth task, so massive kudos to them!

This comic was just so entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time wanting to see what would happen.

Although, this comic did feel a little older than the show in terms of themes, although maybe that is due to the characters growing up more. Either way I’m not complaining because it still managed to capture that magic that I felt when watching the film.

In summary; don’t know if you should read this? YES! YOU SHOULD! If you are a fan of the show, read it now. If you haven’t seen the show, watch the show and then read it immediately (after the promise, of course). This comic is absolutely phenomenal and should not be missed!
