Aru Shah and the City of Gold by Roshani Chokshi

everything was so on point in this book!!! i really loved how all the battles and quests related to different characters and their growth/specific strengths. despite Aru being the main character, Roshani Chokshi does a good job of finding ways to make the other characters have their own arcs as well as their own moments to shine, and that was particularly obvious in this one.
she's also fantastic at making me very happy one moment and "all i know is pain" the next, so there's that. sigh.
back to characters again, Aru's arc (starting even from the end of book 3) is just *chef's kiss* and that's all i need to say on the matter
the feeling of having to wait an entire year for each next book in the series really throws me back to HOO days omg
but yeah time to sit here until spring 2022 ;_;
