Birdbox was not what I expected, I won't lie. It doesn't mean it wasn't a good book, or that it wasn't a good thriller, because it was chilling and fast-paced and breathtaking. However, I have abandoned the genre of dystopian books for a while now, and reading them isn't a pleasant experience for me, or one I usually enjoy. This was focused much more on the aspect of dystopia than the one of horror or thriller, and it also did not give me a fear of darkness like I wanted it to.
If you are new on the genre of horror and like dystopian, by all means, read this book. It is still thrilling in its own way. It was just weak for me, as a reader, and I will not be continuing with the series. It did not feel like a waste of time though, and for this reason, I will recommend it to specific demographics. Just, if you are an avid fan of horror, don't expect too much.
