I have to admit, I'm not sure what I was expecting from this. So rarely do I read books without a recommendation or an honest to goodness connection with the content, and a romantic mystery on an island isn't normall my cup of tea. Thanks to my partner for suggesting this as a co-listen audiobook because, as a guy who's read so many books, seen so many movies, and has watched so much TV, I actually did not predict the twist. The book really kept me guessing the whole way, and we changed our predictions about 10 times. While the writing is nothing special, I appreciate writers that can take on the chapter-by-chapter narration changes without confusing the reader and without confusing the delivery of the characters and the plot. It actually made me like all the characters more, rather than the other way around, since so much of each narrator's experience consisted of their feelings about the others. We gained an interesting and wholesome perspective of each without getting so much information to compromise the mystery. Not to mention I'm a sucker for a story that adores nature and places it in a romantic, almost magical-realist forefront. Pretty good read, but I would still classify it in the 'airport shelf' tier.
