The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
3.0

I finally finished this - I've been reading it for months, and was having a lot of trouble getting through it even though the prose is beautiful. I think she definitely captures something different/unique and emotional about the location (the DRC). I thought that the best part was the differentiation between the three sister characters, and how she sets up their different world views. All in all, I think this is really worth reading for the prose and characterization, but the narrative lags a little. One part I'm still mulling over is the father character, who I feel like was purposefully not very developed... not sure if I have any insight, but I found myself trying to figure out what the author was trying to say with that, and still not sure.
