This is 3 stars because I can recognize that it's a good book, but unfortunately I think I'm just not into epic fantasy. At one point fantasy written like this was all I had, I grew up on R A Salvatore and Dragonlance, whatever I could find on the shelves at my home. And I fell completely in love with magical people, drastically different races, fanatical creatures and melee combat. During high school I had access to the city I was living in's free public library and it blew my mind that theres so many different things I could read. Since my tastes have wildly changed and developed and while I can appreciate this type of novel I find myself being a little bored, very disconnected from characters, and overall kinda underwhelmed. I see this as a completely me thing and nothing at all about the book. Except can I just say it did lack in the action and physical altercations? It was very slow and pondering around with Fitz drove me batty. Though the idea of being the illegitimate child of the royal family, who gets brought in, educated but kept at a distance, really interesting concept that I feel like could have been an enjoyable read, but Fitz was so boring for me. The ending started coming together and I saw some plot but it wasn't enough to make me want to continue reading the series.
