I read this once as a child and I'm glad I came back to it. It hits differently as an adult who has the capibility to understand the horrors humanity can bring on itself. The dual story of Lisel and Death tells a heart wrenching story of a poor foster family in Germany that takes in a Jew named Max during World War II. Together, they learn the power of words, storytelling, and the power of love.
