4.5 stars. this was my FAVORITE ROMANCE NOVEL PERHAPS EVER! oh my goodness. my romance novel romance empire. first of all i want to simply laugh at how silly the other reviews of this book are - especially the one that goes on and on about how cecilia is a liar and edward deserves sooo much better. FINALLY a romance novel of this genre that has a more complex female main character - and the funny thing is that cecilia LIED for good and honorable reasons, but accidentally worked herself into such a mess that she couldn’t quite figure out how to get herself out of it. i enjoyed this even more than the bridgerton novels (and it has such better prose that, please excuse me miss julia quinn, i wondered at times if it was the same author). cecilia and edward had such delicious chemistry. and it was such a good plot, though definitely slower in the beginning and middle - very much picked up towards the end. the one thing is that i wish the pacing had been more consistent and the story around thomas had been more clear. i also loved that edward was not a perfect mmc and at times had too much pride and temper. this was just overall such a good read, their first kiss (and first ykwhat) had me GIGGLING and giddy and kicking my feet. cecilia and edward i love u SO SO MUCH!!!!
