A beautiful, poetic, cosy tale that nestles itself comfortably in its own warm corner of greek mythology.

But that corner isn't warm and welcoming for long. Circe, exiled for her less-than-divine behaviour finds refuge on her own island where she tends to herbs, plants, animals and most importantly: spells. Her exile is far from lonely. Visitors to her island come with a variety of intentions, and often not wholesome ones. It's a story of love, the comforts of home, redemption and finding your own way in the myriad pressure and expectation that comes with being a small fish in a pond of larger gods all with their own ambitions. Circe makes waves not just with her spells, but also in the hearts, minds and bodies of the mortals and immortals who cross her path, for better or worse.

Miller's prose shines with detail and warmth. Some of the imagery, similie and metaphor are incredibly beautiful. Miller composes sentences like a song, and sings the world to life in ways I hadn't seen before. Even if the plot dragged in a couple of places and lost its way in introspection and wallowing, the beauty of the words kept it afloat.
