“And I’ll be here with you, no matter what. I want to come home to the sound of you and Luke laughing. I want to listen to you play the guitar while I cook dinner. I want to leave you Post-it notes for a long time.”

Infinite stars.

Without a doubt my favourite elsie silver book! Willa and Cade’s story is so so so good and THEIR BANTER!? Unparalleled!

“It’s nice to see someone looking at Cade like that. Defending him like that, … Like they can see him for who he is rather than the man circumstances forced him to become.”

Lucas Eaton is my favourite boy ever. He is so cute and I adore his relationship with his dad and Willa, but also his dynamic with pretty much every family member lol he’s such a sweet kid but also has this cheeky funny mischievous side and under it all is a good-hearted kid who’s been raised by good people <3

“I’m not playful, I’m responsible. That’s all I’ve ever been allowed to be. That’s what my family has needed me to be.”

Elsie really delivered on the grumpy cowboy and boy oh boy did I eat it UP! Cade Eaton has my whole damn heart! Yes he’s a grumpy guy but, as Jasper puts it, circumstances have made him that way. As a kid who had to grow up faster than they should have, I really related to Cade and the circumstances he faced not just as an adult but as a child as well. He took on a lot of responsibility from such a young age, and everything that makes him the ‘grump’ he is now is also why he’s such a good father and brother - he does everything he can to make sure that Luke never feels the pressure or responsibilities that he himself felt as a child; the love that Cade has for his son is so pure and heartwarming, and I loved seeing their relationship through this book, and also getting to see Cade kind of reclaim some parts of himself that he thought he had to give up when he became a single father. Seeing Cade get to have fun and not worry about being responsible all the time was so sweet.

“Willa might be a bit of a psycho—after all, she did just push a child into the pool—but the more time I spend with her, the more I feel like she’s my psycho.”

I don’t think I will ever have the words to fill explain my love for Willa Grant! Despite Cade’s initial worries about the situation and Willa’s influence on his son, she ends up being exactly who Luke needs, and the exact right person for their family. The lengths that Willa will go to for Luke had my heart bursting throughout this book, and at times cackling (only Willa Grant would push another kid in the pool to protect Luke lmaooo I love her!)
I love her confidence and sass, and I like that we got to see a vulnerable side to her as well with her family dynamic and often not feeling like she knows what she’s doing with her life, but also not letting that deter her from enjoying life. The one-liners and euphemisms in that girls head … I cannot! She’s truly so fun but also such a fierce protector of the people in her life, especially her two Eaton boys <3

“This man, who mere months ago seemed so cold and unhappy, has turned my world upside down and made me value my life differently. In a simpler way, a quieter way. A way that fits me rather than everyone else around me.”
