This book was published in 2011…it is wild to have lived through Woodard’s “cautions” for many of the nations and the US and Canada as a whole in the last 8 years. When he started talking about the political realities at the time of writing, I was truly shocked, as I thought it was more recently written based on his speculations!
Very interesting read, or listen, as it were, as a dual US and Canadian citizen who grew up in the Far West and has lived in a number of cities in Yankeedom and now The Left Coast, with strong family ties to the Borderlands. So much of what makes up our political and cultural landscape in 2024 makes more sense after completing, but it is still maddening. If you like history and find yourself stuck and wondering things like “why is Texas the worst?!” then I recommend this book!
