Managing Expectations by Minnie Driver
4.5
funny informative lighthearted reflective sad fast-paced

Managing Expectations is an excellent and well written memoir. It is very well crafted and, in my opinion, deserves the appreciation it has received since its release.

A humorous tone and carefully chosen tales evoke much laughter while pulling at the heartstrings, as Minnie recounts how her younger self used humour and her own initiative to cope with family upset and separation

Although the stories mature, Minnie's captivating voice and emotional honesty remain, allowing the reader to connect and learn from a woman who comes across as more of a friend or equal than Oscar nominated actress.

There were one or two things that could have been expanded upon - an essay is dedicated to her pregnancy yet after her son is born, there is little to no mention of him for the remainder of the novel. However, this worked in some cases, such as how she provided personal insights into her relationship with Matt Damon without being disrespectful or crossing any lines.

Would highly recommend this memoir and audiobook as not only a brilliant memoir but an excellent entertaining book as well.
