The Wedding People
by Alison Espach
I thought this book was so damn funny. Although, I think I am within the exact intended audience/ the group of people this book would be most likely to strike a chord with (i.e. white millennial female, who was a young working professional during the pandemic, who lived through a similar “friends planning weddings” season of life, etc) so I don’t necessarily think others would be nearly as impressed and/or amused by the wit as I was.
The various events that happened felt unrealistic to me at times. But maybe that was the author’s intention? To create outlandish, brutally honest characters? And some of the things that happened were so outlandish but maybe it was intentionally meant to be that way? Almost like a magical realism component without… true magic? I’m not really sure, but I liked it.
